  • Momos were originally made from only meat as vegetables were not easily available in the Himalayan part of Tibet. Then, momos were prepared with yak meat but today chicken momos are prevalent.   • Momos stem from the word Tibetan word ‘mog mog’ which means steamed dumplings. Momos are also commonly referred to as dimsums or dumplings.

 

  • A conventional momo steamer is called Mucktoo. It’s basically a metal utensil and it has small pores at its base. Some places use bamboo steamers too. Three types of momos are most eaten: steamed, pan-fried, and fried.
