Here’s How to Easily Steam Momos without a Steamer

Momos are one of the most recognized street foods in the world. From the hills of Nepal to the street-side of Queens, Momos have become synonymous with street-food. In fact, the popularity of the Momos has risen so much that they have become recognized as the unofficial National food of Nepal.

This delicious street food can be made at home! To make the Momo at home, knead the flour using water. Then flatten the dough into discs about 5 inches in diameter. Make sure the discs are thicker in the center and thinner in the edges. Then, place the stuffing and pleat the discs to form the Momos.

Once you have finished stuffing the Momos, place them in a bamboo steamer and let the Momo cook for 10-15 minutes.

However, this method of kneading the dough and waiting for the dough to set can be time-consuming. In fact, it requires time and energy. The dough has to be kneaded perfectly and a bamboo steamer is required to cook the Momos.

Firstly, with so much popularity surrounding the Momos, it is not surprising that they have appeared on shelves of supermarkets and hypermarkets. Momos has become a kitchen snack in many households across India. Today, ready-made Momos are available to cook at home. Ready-made Momos reduce the need for kneading the dough to perfection.

Secondly, there is a more efficient way to cook Momos at home. In fact, having a steamer is not a prerequisite to cooking momos. An easy way to steam momos without a steamer in your kitchen is to use an aluminum foil and a ceramic plate.

Remove the ready-made momos from packaging and place them at room temperature. Then, gently oil the ceramic plate using sesame oil. Place the Momos on the ceramic plate. Add water to a wide-mouth vessel and boil on high flame. Once the water boils, place the plate in the vessel and cover it. Cook until the Momos are fully cooked. If the Momos become soggy, it means that they have become overcooked.

Finding the best momos in Mumbai is no longer a myth! The best places to eat these yummy street-foods are Dev’s Momo Hut in Dadar, Mumbai and WOW! Momo is located in multiple places across Mumbai. Both these places are well known for their variety of Momos made and the fusion Momo dishes prepared.
