Wheat Momos: The Healthier Way

Just hearing the word momo is enough for us to start drooling all over, and hence the title of being voted the best street food out there is probably an apt statement. Momos are delicious dumpling variants from the northeast, where stuffing made with chicken, mutton, pork or vegetable is wrapped in a layer of dough which is then steamed. The best momos out there would melt the moment they enter your mouth, making the decadent and incredibly yummy flavour take over everyone’s hearts. They certainly have become such a massive household name across northern India in almost no time, so much so as to you won’t see a single empty corner in the city. That’s because you are bound to find at least one momo vendor standing with his stall selling the delicious snack. Whether it is in the malls, restaurants or as the corner stalls mentioned before, you will find momos on the menu everywhere!

Momos are quite easy to make as well, traditionally speaking! Prepare the dough, prepare the stuffing, wrap it up in the dough and steam away. The only issue lies around the quality and health factors of the ingredients. Sure, the stuffing can be easily flared up to be made healthier, maybe only use a vegetable base. But the dough can be a problem. Most people use refined flour or maida, and as per several experts, it is known to affect and increase your blood pressure while also affecting your cholesterol levels. This sounds like quite the hassle to get around for health-conscious people, but luckily we’ve found a solution.

Wheat momos have come to the rescue! Instead of using maida, you can always use wheat flour as a healthy substitute without sacrificing your momo cravings. Wheat flour is rich in fibre and protein, as they’re both essential nutrients for your health, much healthier than regular maida! So now cook away your momos with wheat flour, and even if you went a little overboard and made in excess - you can always freeze them in the refrigerator. Frozen momos last quite long, and you and thaw them and steam a few up whenever you want.
