Best Treat with High Tea | Momos to Your Rescue

What does an evening snack look like in the monsoons? Tea and cookies? Tea and sandwiches? Chai and Pakora? Coffee and butter corn? A piping hot plate of Maggi? While all of these are sure to leave you salivating, they have gotten a little old. Change is the only constant and what’s life without new and delicious things to eat? Ever thought about treating yourself to a steaming hot plate of chicken momos while staring at the rain by the window? Oh, the feeling is divine. All this while you probably have been used to running down to your favourite street vendor and devouring a plate of momos, but with the pandemic, these vendors are nowhere to be seen. Does that mean we stop eating momos? Hell, no! Making them at home can be quite simple if you follow the right recipe.

The preparation for this doesn’t need too much. All-purpose flour, oil, chicken, vegetables like onions, ginger, garlic, and celery, dark soy sauce, vinegar, and some spices and condiments should do the trick. Start with kneading a soft dough with flour, some salt, a few drops of oil, and water. Once a pliable consistency is achieved, let it rest. The filling can be spiced as per your choice. You can choose to mince the chicken or dice it, sauté some onions in ginger garlic paste and oil, throw in the protein, and season with celery, salt, pepper, and some soy sauce and chilies. Once cooked, let the filling cool while you divide the dough into equal parts and make discs. Fill in the chicken, fold the momos to make your favourite shape, and cook. If you are looking to reduce your oil intake, steam them, and voila, your chicken momos are ready. These can also be pan-fried or deep-fried if your crunchy cravings are on the rise. Don’t forget to make a soy and rice vinegar dip or a spicy momo chutney to complete your meal.

This is a fairly easy dish and can be prepared in an hour or so. In case you feel like your cooking skills will not suffice to make these from scratch, you can turn to ready to eat momos. These are frozen and all you’ll need to do is steam or fry them.
