Momos That You Can Enjoy Guilt-Free
Who doesn’t love a plate of momos – ones with a thin
covering, a very succulent and juicy filling, and a deliciously hot tomato
chili sauce as an accompaniment? While steam
momos taste great, the pan-fried ones add more texture to the dish just
like the deep-fried counterpart. Chicken momos are deemed as the reigning
supremacy while other meat momos follow. When eaten while standing at the shack
at the corner of your college’s lane, these taste even better. It’s around 5-6
PM in the evening, college just got over, the weather is getting cooler and you
end up and the momo bhaiya and binge with your friends. Oh, what a perfect end
to the day! But the question is, how healthy are these momos?
Chicken momos on the street are often unhygienic as the meat
is not cleaned well or of good quality. It can lead to people falling ill.
Also, eating a plate of deep-fried meat momos with extra spicy chutney is not
something you should do every day as it could lead to problems in the body. So,
what do you do? Switch to a healthier variant of the same dish. Make veg momos your best
friend. Stuff your sheets with a mix of several sautéed vegetables and enjoy
the same delicacy. Cooking these at home instead of going to your roadside
vendor is a better decision too as it will ensure that the quality of food you are
consuming is maintained. If you want to still make this a guilt-free
indulgence, swap out all-purpose flour for whole wheat flour. You can also
completely cut out the gluten from this dish by turning to rice flour or millet
flour. Sure, your momo shape won’t be as pretty as the glutenous ones, but you
will be able to enjoy your favourite food without regretting it later. Also, an
obvious choice would be to go for steam momos instead of pan-fried or fried
ones to cut down any excess oil.
Here is your cue to get off the internet, head to the
kitchen, and make a steaming hot plate of veg momos.
